Join the People's March for the NHS

999_Call_for_the_NHS_banner_650px.jpgThe NHS is our birthright. We made it. we use it. we own it. We love it. Now it's under threat and we have to stand up for it. A group of Darlington mums are following the Jarrow marchers to walk from Newcastle to London to save our NHS. We'll organise a series of events on their arrival in Nottingham including a rally from 5.15pm in Nottingham's Old Market Square. Use the Facebook event to promote it.

The march will arrive in Mansfield on the evening of Wednesday 27 August. It leaves Mansfield on Thursday 28 August and travels through Sutton, Kirkby, Newstead, Hucknall, Bulwell and arrive for a rally in Nottingham sometime around or shortly after 5pm. We're working out the exact route with exact timings but in the meantime we have done a flyer which you can distribute. Email us to get some flyers sent out to you.

ello Everyone, A message from the organisers. It's looking huge! 'thought it time to just quickly say hello to everyone again and let you know how we are proceeding. We have some really big groups supporting us now. There is going to be a lot of people marching, of that I am sure! The list of people planning to walk the whole thing is growing, and there is no zone with less than a couple of hundred named walkers, and that's just individuals registered, not including the groups that have offered support. Groups like the Peoples Assembly and Unite the Union, the GMB and a whole list of amazing NHS supporter groups. We have runners, and there is talk of cycling too apparently. We have feeder marches coming in from all over the country. Men, women, and children all coming together to #marchforthenhs. Pretty soon, we will be in touch with you to find out a little more about what you plan to do. Which bits you will be walking etc. I will be honest, I am afraid to ask you at the moment, because if you all reply it might make our email crash!! We need serious admin support I think!! The search for the coordinators is more or less done now. We have basically every zone covered. We still always want you to support the coordinators of course, and pretty soon, we will put up a map on our website with contact details of each person looking after each of the 23 stops along the way. When that happens, you will be able to contact your appropriate person and let them know what you can offer to help. Be that cakes, or beds or beer! Its a small group of us running this at the moment, and its hard to keep in touch with all. We are working on expanding the team a little and making a few improvements to how we keep in touch. I promise, its going to be fantastic. Please know that we are working hard to make this a huge and significant event. We want to make the ordinary people of this country feel able to join in the battle for our NHS. Keep spreading the word. Keep tweeting and liking our Facebook page, keep letting your friends and family know about us. Tell everyone you know that we are coming. Its never been more urgent. The government know they don't have long to finish the job. Lets change history. Lets save our NHS.'

According to this article in the Independent 'The NHS is in the middle of the biggest funding squeeze in its 66-year history. Experts have warned that the future of the health service as we know may be at risk unless more money is found'

Nxtgen is a Midlands rapper who wrote this about Andrew Lansley, the architect of the Health and Social Care Act. Should we invite him to meet the march when it arrives in Nottingham?
