Peoples Assembly - August Update

Jeremy Corbyn comes to Nottingham - Thursday 20 August

Jeremy Corbyn's campaign has electrified the Labour leadership contest and brought anti austerity ideas to the fore. He has raised an alternative economic programme which would see an end to debilitating cuts, and investment in jobs and homes. He is at Nottingham's historic Albert Hall on Thursday next week and we want to fill the hall to bursting and show our city is against the Tory programme of cuts.

Whilst the People's Assembly is non party political, Jeremy is a founder of the People's Assembly movement and has consistently opposed austerity. You can RSVP for the rally here, and use theFacebook event to spread the word. We haven't got long!

Sports Direct - a "Dickensian employer" Protest on Wednesday 9 September

Book the day off work now and join Unite and the People's Assembly to protest appalling working conditions at Sports Direct!

Sports Direct are one of the worst employers in the UK. They have used the lax labour laws in the UK to put thousands of workers in their shops on precarious zero hours contracts, but that pales in comparison to the conditions in their distribution centre in Derbyshire. Just this week a Nottingham couple were charged with 'modern day slavery' for supplying Polish workers to Sports Direct in Shirebrook and pocketing their wages. The company's shocking approach to employment has led to some heart-breaking stories emerge from the factory. Last year a woman gave birth in company toilets on New Years Day, a sign that the company does not take workers' health and safety seriously.

On Wednesday 9 September People's Assembly will join with Unite the Union to protest at the Nottingham shop on Clumber St. After that we'll travel to the Shirebrook HQ where the shareholders meeting will be held. Let's make sure the Nottingham contingent at the demo in Shirebrook is huge, and make sure Sports Direct don't become an example of the future of work in the UK. book your FREE seat on the coach to Shirebrook.

Demo in Nottingham - 11am
Coach to Shirebrook - 12pm
