Nottingham Together rally

The EU referendum has led to chaos and uncertainty for the UK. Key promises from the Leave campaign have already been broken and the next two years will involve the renegotiation of many of the rights we take for granted.

In particular we are concerned about the status of the many EU citizens who live, work and contribute to our city. Many will have settled in Britain and will be uncertain about their future.

Whatever way we voted, we didn’t vote for xenophobia, discrimination or violence against minorities.

The people of Nottingham stand side by side with our European brothers and sisters to say everyone is welcome here, and the vote to leave the EU should not alter that. We are a world class city with a... world outlook and we welcome people from across the globe.

We are rallying to show that the vote to leave is not an excuse for bigotry, and that any negotiations should include the right of EU citizens to stay in the UK if they wish. We don’t want to become a closed society and we value our international friends, neighbours and co-workers.

So let’s stand together as a city, united in our determination to say no to xenophobia and yes to a welcoming, multicultural Nottingham!

We don’t have long so please share this event widely in your many networks and let’s show the best side of our great city.
