People’s Assembly Nottingham members are invited be involved in a special promotional film being created to mark the upcoming release of Ken Loach’s new film I, Daniel Blake.
A key speech within the film is Daniel Blake’s manifesto and call for respect and acknowledgement:
I am not a client, a customer, nor a service user.
I am not a shirker, a scrounger, a beggar, nor a thief.
I am not a national insurance number, nor a blip on a screen.
I paid my dues, never a penny short and proud to do so.
I don't tug the forelock, but look my neighbour in the eye.
I don't accept or seek charity.
My name is Daniel Blake, I am a man, not a dog.
As such, I demand my rights. I demand you treat me with respect.
I, Daniel Blake, am a citizen, nothing more, nothing less. Thank you.
People are invited to recite one or two lines from the speech to be included in this special promotional film that will be released online before the film hits cinemas.
Please come to Broadway Cinema in Nottingham on Wednesday 12 October between 6.45pm and 7.45pm.
Filming will be taking place downstairs and there will be someone in an I, Daniel Blake t-shirt upstairs in the foyer to welcome you.
Please arrive promptly for a quick briefing before filming starts.
You don’t need to memorise any lines as there will be autocue prompts to help.
We need everyone to see this vitally important film and getting involved in the making of this special promotional film is one way to help with that.
